Summary

Description
English: This is my own illustration. It is based on information I found about flint mining in Jutland, Denmark, in Stone Age and in later ages, in the website http://skibeterlastetmed.com which is an academic project to project valid info on related to local history (to this area of Denmark). In the above website it is mentioned and illustrated that The Flint mines at Hov were discovered by chance in the summer of 1957 by Professor C. J. Becher of the National Museum, who held a holiday in the area. At the edge of a modern chalk pit he saw the traces of a stone mine from the Stone Age. The professor immediately interrupted his vacation and began excavation. When the studies were completed in 1965, 50 mines were located, which spread over an area of approx. 200 x 80 meters. The mines are from the Pentecost Age and over 5000 years old. The best preserved shaft was about 7 meters deep and measured at the surface 4.5 meters in diameter. From the bottom of the shaft were 4 low sideways - stoller - which was up to 5 meters long. Some of them had connection to other mining powers and thus formed a whole network of underground corridors. In the centuries after the mining operation at Hov had ceased, the shafts were slowly filled up. After the excavations in the 1960s, it was possible for a number of years to come down to one of the shafts. - Source: http://skibeterlastetmed.com/skibet.swf
